There are a lot of debates over this issue?
But what really differentiates skillful entrepreneur from successful entrepreneur?
A couple of months back, I happened to listen to one of highly successful entrepreneurs turned Angel Investor. He shared a few facts which startled most of the audience present there because they thought typical middle class way.
Today, I am going to share a few of the aspects which he shared so that you can get the whole message here.
You know for a fact that 19 out of 20 businesses fail , so even after knowing this hard fact why entrepreneurs delve into this journey of entrepreneurship?Everybody knows there is very less probability of that person to succeed.
But let me tell you one thing,
Statistics has no bearing on something which is effort related.
Many people don’t understand that. They just focus on statistics and take decisions.
For MBA Aspirants, people who are in their current professions, ask yourself a question.
How many of MBA aspirants get more than 99%ile in CAT? Hardly 2000. (If you take last year’s data)
How many professionals make it to the top ? (CEO) Hardly 2-3%
So actually we should be discouraging our kids not to pursue MBA or not to pursue good profession because probability of making to the top is very less.
But what we do is to encourage our children to go for MBA or Entrepreneurship.
Because there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
So what does differentiate skillful entrepreneur from successful entrepreneur?
- Will Power
- Hard work
You guessed it all wrong. It’s actually none of them.
It’s called “Survival“.
It’s most primal instinct of human.
You’ ll see lots of people who were very bright in their school days/college days/professional life. You will find them stuck somewhere. They don’t seem to achieve their true potential. You will wonder what really happened to them.
I have witnessed this fact no of times during my school days, junior college days & engineering days. I have seen people who were bottom rankers in the class has gone to a such a higher level that nobody could have ever imagined. I have seen so called toppers in schools & colleges who are stuck doing something they don’t even enjoy.
You can observe this “survival” trait in extra-ordinary sportsmen.
Top performers consciously or unconsciously practice this to get the results they want. They don’t know whether they are going to win or lose but they are not willing to lie down. They decide to give their 100% no matter what. They just refuse quitting even they know overwhelmingly odds are against them. These are the people that make it in life.
So ask yourself a question how much you can take?
When I ask you this question, I remember a quote from a famous movie “Rocky”
Rocky tells this to his son, when his son fears of public humiliation his father can face if he looses the fight against the heavyweight champion.
“The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!
Nobody can make you a survivor.
A person’s character is not defined at the peak of greatness but in valley of adversity. When the chips are down what you are going to be.
Each one of us has different script written. Nobody knows what’s going to happen to other person.
But when the window of opportunity will come, if you are not in the ring how can you cash in the winning ticket
“If you are not tested you can never call yourself successful.”
There was an Ace Fighter pilot. He was amongst the best fighter pilots in his squadron. He was a textbook perfect.
His Senior once told him ” I am really scared how good you are , that’s the reason you never got into trouble, but unless you get into trouble , how can I judge you until you get out of that trouble because I don’t know how you will behave in the dace of the trouble. You haven’t got the character to handle adversity.”
What defines a real champion is how a person behaves when the chips are down.
Nobody can give it you. Nobody can teach you.
What really makes a champion is the steel you are made of.
