As CAT 2012 final results are out , you can check out the results here.
The recent news has ruffled many feathers as most of the toppers (100%ilers couldn’t convert much coveted A, B calls)
See this statistics
Areesh Mittal : IIM-C
Anshul Garg : IIM-C
Ravi Teja Palla : IIM-C,L (Waitlisted for B )
Sumit Patil : IIM-C,A, B, L
Siddharth Sharma : IIM C, B
Jaskaran Singh Sachdeva : IIM L (Waitlisted for C )
Harishwar Subramanian : IIM C, L (Waitlisted for A, B)
Only two toppers have made it to IIM-A and IIM-B. Last year many 100% ilers didn’t get any calls from IIM-B. Thanks to their weird admission criteria.
Let’s dig further.
After second round , 30 % weightage is given to CAT score, 70% weightage is given to performance in PI, academic performance and achievements, extra-curricular activities & post degree work experience. As the breakup of 70% is not clear, is being the single reason for the candidates not knowing where they actually lack.
In pre-selection phase, the weightage is as below
CAT score -20 , Class X-15, Class XII -10, Graduation -15, Work
Experience/Professional Experience -5
And during PI phase, the weightage is as follows
Written note content -7.5, Written note style -7.5, Interview Score -20, Work Experience -10
Pre-selection phase score and during PI phase score are added, it has very little emphasis on CAT score.
Also during normalization of Class X and Class XII scores are normalized, but people who tend to have higher work experience had lesser Class X and Class XII scores, the reason being CBSE, ICSE boards have made scoring little easier in these last two years.
For PI stage, selection criteria is
CAT score -77 , Class X -10, Class XII-10, Gender Diversity -3
And for final selection, the weightage is
CAT score -35, PI -44, WAT -10, Work Experience -8
So why only handful of toppers made it to the IIM-A and IIM-B
- IIM-A and IIM-B put heavy stress on Class X and Class XII marks along with graduation marks.
- IIM-C puts heavy stress on CAT score and less emphasis on Class X,Class XII scores.
- If you are not consistent with your marks, your chances of making it to IIM-A and IIM-B are negligible because these schools demand consistency also.
